Why?
A big question that we often ask in relating to ICT's in enducation and in English is WHY? Why should teachers change their practice. Why? would students benefit from this change.
This page looks into those questions. It looks into the why's on a more wide-spread basis of the benefits on ICT's in an English classroom and the students we as teachers will have.
"We must be teaching our students how to use the tools of this moment, and teaching them how to learn the next set"

As educators we all remember the term 'life-long learner', how as educators it is our responsibility to ensure that our students are not only learning the information we are teaching them but we are also teaching and encouraging them to discover and explore HOW they learn. These learning habits will extend not only to other subject areas but to other area's in life. This includes, at an increasing rate, the ability to use and learn new technologies. The Australian Curriculum states that all students should be 'empowered within a techynologically sophisticated society' and as teachers, we first need to be competent in using and learning these same technologies. For us to teach our students how to become life-long learners we must first become them ourselves.
Below is a YouTube clip which looks at the imapct that ICT's have on our students, our teaching practices as well as the social and economic world in genral. The clip has perspectives from students, teachers and employers. The clip also goes into how the way in which ICT is integrated will directly affect the learning opportunities experienced by the students.

HOW?
Another important question is How?...How will ICT's assist a high school student and more specifically an English High School Student
While studying for this course and creating this assessment. I came across the paper ICT in High Schools, the paper explains how a group of teachers participated in a study with the Galileo Education Network to investigate and analyse how ICT's can be effectively utilised within education. It also looks into how ICT's can assist in cross-curricula education.
Subjects that are included within the initiative include English, Social Studies, Humanities, Math and Drama.
Some teacher observations that resluted from the enquiry found that student learning was enhanced in multiple area's and the level of student engagement was significantly increased.
The study includes links to activities and resources that were used within the students work and also provides insight to both the positive and negative impacts on the teachers planning stages.
